In-App Survey

Client P97 Networks, Inc.
Year 2024
Role Senior Product Designer

Clients of P97 Network looked to get feedback from their customers using their app to improve their services. As the Senior Product Designer for the PetroZone web portal, I worked with Project Managers and Developers to design a UI that would walk clients through the process of creating a customized survey to be displayed on their apps.

Challenges

1
Customizable
UI needed to allow for a significant amount of customization of surveys to fit the client’s needs.
2
Approachable
UI needed to be simple enough for the average user to use and be understood easily.
3
Requirements
The required data to create a survey was numerous and needed to be well-organized in a cohesive manner.

Approach

  • Organizing Process
Created user flows to understand the journey of creating and modifying a survey, along with a wireframe to initially visualize the UI.
  • Pain Points of Other Processes
I spent time considering the pain points of other processes on the PetroZone web portal in order to make the survey creation process better.
  • Regular Collaboration
I regularly collaborated with the Project Managers and Developers to review UI concepts and keep aligned with requirements.

Solution

  • Step-by-Step Process
I organized the required data into related sections so users could focus on smaller chunks of information.
  • Contextual Fields
Drawing upon my previous experience designing UIs for forms, I made certain fields appear depending on the choices users made while filling out the form. This allowed for greater customization when desired.
  • Supporting Text
To reduce the need to ask for technical support, I added short but informative instructions to each step. Each field was also given brief supporting text to help users understand their purpose.

Outcome

Clients were impressed with the new UI, which was a significant improvement over the previous UIs seen on the PetroZone web portal. They enjoyed the great amount of customization that they could add to their surveys, that tailored to their needs and desires. With instructions and supporting text as a part of the UI, clients were able to complete their surveys with little technical support.
